Euronews highlights how Accord is helping European families achieve more equal household task distribution, with 25,000+ users and a 60% reduction in the gender gap.
We're thrilled to share that Accord has been featured in Euronews, one of Europe's leading news networks! The article, titled "Doing most of the chores at home? This app could help divide cleaning tasks and bring equality," highlights how our app is making a real difference in households across Europe.
The statistics are striking: 79% of women in Europe do cooking and housework every day, compared to just 34% of men. This inequality creates stress, frustration, and tension in relationships across the continent.
What started as a simple idea from a Swedish university student has grown into a movement. When co-founder Victor Fredrikson's father jokingly suggested he "programme an app so I don't have to nag at you anymore," little did they know it would spark a solution to one of Europe's most persistent household challenges.
In just 10 months since our September 2024 launch, Accord has gained over 25,000 users across Europe. But the numbers that matter most show the real change we're creating:
As Victor shared with Euronews: "There's a really interesting sociology study showing that when families divide chores more fairly, each family member's stress levels reduce drastically and communication improves. And this eventually leads to happier relationships and better relationships."
The article features Lina-Marie Lundqvist, a special educator and Accord user, whose story perfectly captures why we built this app:
"Now there are tasks that are distributed clearly, and everyone has taken responsibility for taking this. I don't have to be the project manager and be the initiator all the time."
Her experience highlights one of the most important aspects of household inequality - the invisible mental load that often falls disproportionately on one partner. Lina-Marie describes the relief of not having to constantly ask: "Can you empty the dishwasher? Can you do this? Can you do that?"
The transformation in her household speaks to our core mission. As she puts it: "When I got home from work one day and the laundry was folded and the dishwasher was unpicked without me even having to remind. It was such a hallelujah moment."
One of the key insights Euronews captured is that Accord isn't about rigid equality - it's about fairness and understanding. As Victor explained:
"It's way more about this conversation to be had. Seeing, appreciating what the other person is actually doing and getting that visualisation very clear on who's doing what, how much, and then ultimately starting that conversation."
Our app recognizes that fairness isn't always about splitting tasks exactly down the middle. It's about energy management too. Some tasks drain us more than others, regardless of time spent. That's why we introduced effort points - allowing families to weigh tasks based on how difficult they feel, not just how long they take.
The journey from three male students at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm to helping thousands of European families has been incredible. What began as a university project has evolved into a tool that's genuinely improving lives across multiple countries.
We're now available in Spanish, French, German, English, and Swedish, making household harmony accessible to families across Europe's diverse linguistic landscape.
The Euronews coverage highlighted important research showing that when families divide chores more fairly, stress levels reduce drastically and communication improves. This isn't just about cleaning - it's about creating the foundation for healthier, happier relationships.
Our approach combines:
Being featured in Euronews represents more than media coverage - it's validation that we're addressing a real, widespread challenge. The response from users across Europe shows that families are ready for tools that help create more equitable households.
As Swedish Radio described us, Accord is "a digital tool that brings household organizing into the 21st century." But more than that, we're helping bring equality and understanding into the 21st century home.
With over 25,000 users and growing, Accord is proving that technology can be a force for positive social change. We're not just organizing chores - we're helping families build stronger, more equitable relationships.
